Lab Caches

Geocaching.com is experimenting with a cache type called "Lab Caches" and although these caches are not yet integrated into geocaching.com and are not listed in the My Finds PQ, they do already count toward your total find count.  Mygeocachingprofile.com now has a setting on the Build My Profile page where you can specify how many Lab Caches you have found.  They will then count towards your total finds and will be shown in your Cache Types I've Found profile section.  Lab caches will not be integrated into the other profile sections until geocaching.com moves forward and incorporates them into the main site and the My Finds PQ.

Update your Lab Cache find count by going to the Build My Profile page and then scrolling to the Additional Caching Information section.  Enter the number of lab caches you have found and click the Save Changes button.  Then, upload your My Finds PQ zip file to update your profile images.  If you have any problems or questions, please Contact Us.

The Canadian, Australian, Swedish, Spanish, Portuguese, and South African maps have been updated with a new map view.  This change was necessary because the third party mapping service we were using is going to be shut down in the near future.  The new maps are now totally under our control.  They also are a bit larger and easier to read.

These new maps will be available the next time you upload your My Finds PQ zip file to the site.  If you have any questions or problems, please Contact Us.

New Cacher Ranking Options

A few updates have been made to the cacher ranking section.
  • The "Average Difficulty/Terrain" ranking now allows you to customize restraints on average difficulty, average terrain, and number of caches found.  For example, you can view cachers who have an average difficulty and terrain over 1.5 after finding 1000 caches.  Or you can change the view and see cachers with an average difficulty and terrain over 2.0 after finding 2500 caches.  This geocaching goal is defined in different ways by different events/caches, and now it's easier to keep track of it on the site.
  • The "Total US States" ranking now breaks ties by checking how many caches you found in your least cached in state.  For example, if cacher #1 has cached in all 50 states but only found 1 cache in some states and cacher #2 has cached in all 50 states and has found at least 5 caches in each state, then cacher #2 would be ranked above cacher #2.
  • The "Total Countries" ranking now also breaks ties in the same manner of the "Total US States" ranking.
We hope to add even more information and options to the Cacher Ranking section in the future.  If you have any requests or problems, please Contact Us!

Thanks!

US County Map Changes

The US County Map profile section has been improved with a few changes:
  • The map's state boundaries are now bolder than the county boundaries.  Hopefully this will make the map easier to read.
  • Occasionally the website will have a difficult time figuring out in which county a cache is located.  This can cause the processing to take a very long time.  Now, whenever it runs across one of these difficult caches it will remember the county location for next time.  This should speed up processing time as more and more of these difficult caches are discovered and logged.
  • There is now an option to totally disable the US County Map processing if you don't care about this profile section.  Just check the "Disable US County Map Processing" option near the top of the "US Counties I've Cached In" profile section.
If you have any questions or problems with these changes - Contact Us or visit our Help page.

New Cacher Ranking - Total Avg Difficulty/Terrain
